It's not about her

**When you're done reading this, you're invited to read the update! Surgery was today!**

Tomorrow, we'll be heading to Dartmouth with E for a fairly uncomplicated maintenance surgery for her cecostomy. We recently learned that her body is not healing the way that it should be, and the tubes will need to stay in her for at least another year. This was not what we'd envisioned or expected but God is sovereign, and it has not taken Him by surprise.

Years ago, when we began this journey of not knowing what was wrong with our daughter, the Lord impressed upon my heart repeatedly that this trial was not just for her or about her. That there was a greater purpose: to build the faith of the believers around her and to magnify His love and care and power so that those who do not yet believe would see. That has helped me steady my gaze, because it's hard not to get frustrated.

E (far right) with her little sisters.
She has been a dear example of perseverance for them
throughout all of this!
Here are a few of the verses I have on my mind as the anxious mom. Please share any verses the Lord has put on your heart recently below. My well is mostly dry right now, and I will drink in as much of the life-giving Word as you can share.

Philippians 4:6-7
Isaiah 26:3-4
John 9:1-3
Psalm 145

Thank you!

Trusting Him,
for His glory!
~Lisha

  2. Lisha, I will be praying for your daughter and your family as you travel tomorrow. You're right! The Lord is sovereign, and He has bigger plans than we could ever envision. Yet, as a Mom, I feel your pain. My heart aches for you. My prayer is Psalm 13 because I know you're feeling despair, so I will pray as David did: "But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me."

    Keep us posted, friend.

    Psalm 119:76
May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. (NIV)

    Proverbs 3:24
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. (NIV)

    1. Thank you, Melissa! I took these with me to the hospital. The Proverbs 3 one is one that my pastor had shared with me not too long ago. I'm so blessed by this :)

  4. "Is there any remover of difficulties, save God? Say praised be God, He is God. All are His servants and all abide by His bidding." (The Bab) One of my mainstays for reminding me to trust Him, that my worry cannot remove any difficulty in my path .... that He will take care of it all. Lots of love to you dear friend.

  7. Excellent verses! Learning to walk in faith for our children is much harder than for ourselves. Continuing to pray for His sovereign and healing hand to touch her body and for grace for you, dear sister.

    1. Oh, it's so true - I'd so much rather take her trials onto my shoulders and carry them for her. But I'm learning so much as I watch her relationship with the Lord growing in ways it wouldn't necessarily grow if she wasn't so dependent on His strength daily. Thank you for praying, Kate!

    1. Thank you, Judith! A few weeks out, and she's had a few bad days here and there, but God has so many lessons in it for each one of us that even the bad days are a reminder of His faithfulness!
