A current reading list

I just wanted to share a list of the books that are being read (or re-read) in our home right now! One of the things I'm most thankful for about my husband is that he understands my need to read. A lot. We are both voracious readers, and are grateful that our girls also love curling up with great books!

(Have you got any suggestions for good books? Please let me know!)

Books Will is reading:
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain
Out of the Silent Planet, by C.S. Lewis

Books I'm reading (a few pages of each at a time):
The Psalms.
The Excellent Wife, by Martha Peace.
The Marriage Builder, by Larry Crabb
My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers
Hind's Feet on High Places, by Hannah Hurnard
Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card. I am not generally a science-fiction fan, but this is one of Will's favorite books of all time, and he asked me to read it to see what I thought.

With the girls, bedtime reading:
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, by C.S. Lewis

With the girls, for school:
Favorite Poems of Childhood, various authors
George Muller, by Geoff & Janet Benge
The Wheel on the School, Meindert DeJong
A Child's History of the World, by Virgil M. Hillyer
What Makes You Ill?, by S. Mayes
Leading Little Ones to God, by Marian M. Schoolland
What Do People Do All Day?, by Richard Scarry

Some of the books we've read with the girls this year!
We love read-aloud time!
What are you reading at your house these days? I'd love some suggestions!

For His glory!

  1. I just finished reading, God is Red a book about Chinese Christians. I began The Excellent Wife, Watching the English, and I am in Mark.

    1. God is Red - I'll have to look it up. Thank you for the suggestion! Have you ever read The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun? It's one of my very favorite autobiographies and highlights much of the persecution of the church in China.

      Thank you for visiting :)

    2. Ooo, I have to second your suggestion of The Heavenly Man. It's such an incredible story and really opened my eyes up to the situation there. Honestly, I never understood what the big deal was about the Christian churches & government sponsored churches until I read it.

Glad I found your blog through The Better Mom Link Up!

    3. Two other outstanding autobiographies: God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew (about missions behind the Iron Curtain) and Bruchko by Bruce Olson (being a missionary in the Amazonian jungle). Those three radically broke my heart for the global church. :)

  3. Ender's Game is a great book! My husband is reading Tarzan of the Apes right now as a favor to me!

    1. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would, although I struggle with the idea that it's kids training for war. But the author writes really well, and I appreciate that. I've never read Tarzan...I'll have to see if the library has it. All I know about Tarzan is based on cartoons.

      Thank you for visiting, Helene!

  4. I hear Martha Peace's The Excellent Wife is really good, too! I've still not got around to reading it, but it's been on my reading list awhile. :) I've been reading Practical Theology for Women by Wendy Aslup(VERY slowly lol) but it's been really good!

    1. After my Bible, The Excellent Wife is my go-to for being a wife. It is biblically sound and so uplifting (and, at times, a kick in the pants!). I love reading theology books - I'll definitely be looking up Practical Theology for Women! Thank you so much, Jessica!

  6. I love seeing people's reading lists! I must admit I tend to get very distracted by other people's bookcases when I visit houses! It's so great to find out what books people enjoy.
I'm reading Becoming Myself by Stasi Eldredge at the moment which is really thought-provoking.
Thanks for sharing at Essential Fridays.

    1. I get distracted by bookcases, too :D Is Becoming Myself a relatively new book? I read Captivating a few years ago but didn't know she had any other books out.

Thanks for your faithfulness to encourage others through the Friday link-up!
