It's JESUS!!

The girls & I read a Bible story or two every morning. It's part of our school routine, but more importantly than that, it is precious to me that we get to spend time thinking and talking about God's Word!

This morning, we were reading about Daniel's friends Shadrach, Meshach, & Abednego, and their refusal to bow before the King Nebuchadnezzar's golden idol, thus worshiping a false god. For the account, see Daniel 3. The punchline is that the king has the three men thrown in the furnace - and yet, to his surprise and terror, they are not consumed by the flames!

Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?”

They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.”

“Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God." [Daniel 3:24-25]

As I finished reading, Abby was very excited and blurted out: "The Son of God and man walking with them is JESUS! It's JESUS next to them in the fire!! Yay!!"

...The Lord, in His wisdom and great love, speaks so clearly to the hearts of little children, because they are receptive to His truths!! And I needed to hear that truth this morning, and be tenderly reminded that when we feel that we have been thrown headlong into the fiery furnace (even when we have been earnestly walking with the Lord in obedience!) that it is Jesus who walks alongside us in the midst of the flames. And oh! that the ties that bind us are burned off, but we are called out, refined yet not even singed by the fires of our enemy. He covers us. It is a balm to my heart in this season of intense fire and refining - He is here! Now! Walking in the furnace with me!

I love my dear children. And as I live with and learn from them, I love Jesus even more. What a wonderful Savior!

In the furnace, but not alone,
for His glory!
