She considers a field and buys it;
from her profits she plants a vineyard.
Back in February, I attended a home show for Usborne Books & More. Since we use some of Usborne's history and science titles in our home education curriculum (Sonlight uses many of Usborne's books as part of their curriculum packages), I was thrilled to see what else the company had to offer. When I got home from the party, I mentioned the idea of having my own Usborne business to Will and to my surprise, he encouraged me to go for it. We prayed about it, considered the cost (financially and in terms of time), and were both at peace with the decision to move forward.
I signed up through my sponsor (the consultant who had been at the home show) and bought the big business kit for $149. It came with about 30 books and all the paperwork I'd need to get started, as well as my own website.
There were three main reasons we decided to go ahead with the Usborne venture:
1) Part of our vision for the Bible House is to expand the home education section. Since many of Usborne's titles are excellent for using as part of a home education curriculum, it works well to have a permanent display down on the shelves.
2) It allows me to contribute to our family's finances while being home. I see the purchase of the business kit as my "field" [Proverbs 31:16], and with its profits I hope to be able to "plant a vineyard" - for this business to be successful enough that I can use the proceeds to grow other profitable dreams and ideas from home. Right now, my goal is to make enough to be able to buy next year's curriculum for the girls. We invest around $1,000 per year in our children's education at home (including curriculum, field trips, etc). Every home show, online eShow, and direct sale contribute toward my dream of being able to continue to educate our girls at home!
3) This does not interfere with my primary responsibilities of taking care of Will, the girls, and our home. If it ever does, the flexibility of Usborne is such that I could scale back my efforts for a time [in fact, I've already done that for the summer while we didn't have a vehicle!]. There are no monthly minimums to meet for a consultant. It's been a blessing to know that.
If you want to check out my Usborne website, visit Usborne Books & More! Browse the 1,300+ titles, enter our monthly drawing for a chance to win $50 in free books, or sign up to host an online eShow! Will & I also have a Facebook page that you can like and share (or become a fan of, or subscribe to - whatever it is that they are doing now!): Usborne Facebook Page. And if you need to get in touch with me, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 603.532.6843 [this is also the number for the Bible House].
I'm looking for women who are willing to host a home party in either October or November. I have quite a few dates that I am available, and with the holidays coming up, earning some free and 1/2 price books will help you pick out quality books for the children in your life that are within your budget! It's also a wonderful opportunity to get together with close friends and eat yummy fall-time snacks! Please contact me if you are interested!
[And if you live far away, you can still order from the website and it will ship right to your house!! You can also "host" an online eShow and when your show sales reach $85, you start earning free books!]
