Lost in India

Over the past couple of weeks, the girls and I have been learning about India through the online adventure "Lost in India", sponsored by Mission India & Sonlight Curriculum.

The goal of the Lost in India project is to raise $350,000 to help children in India who have never heard about Jesus attend Children's Bible Clubs for free. The cost to send 1 child is $1. My girls have been scouring the house, looking for loose change, and even coming up with ways to earn money to contribute.

The main teaching tool is an engaging video series following the story of friends Justin & Chris, who are trying to find each other in India (Chris - an American - is lost!, and Justin - an Indian believer - is trying to get to him!). They meet other believers along the way, who share their stories and how the love of Jesus has changed their lives.

One of the stories is that of a woman named Roopa. There were two versions of her story released: one for the parents to watch, and one that was more appropriate for children to watch. If my daughters were a few years older and I believed they were mature enough, I would have allowed them to watch this one, though. It's a powerful story of suffering and the kind of forgiveness that can only come through Jesus. Please watch. and let your heart be broken for all the ways that people - who are made in the image of God - can be so easily discarded, abused, or abandoned by others. and then let your heart sing for joy that Jesus can bring beauty from devastating circumstances!

Thanks to Lost in India, my girls and I are developing a greater love for people of other cultures, a deeper compassion for the hurting, and a more intense desire to do what we can to help the message of grace and mercy go forth to the ends of the earth (and to start here by making sure we are living like Jesus teaches us to)!
